While being a separate organization from LAG, the Lemont Art and Culture Commission was formerly housed at Lemont Center for the Arts (LCA).  It had exhibits of original artwork and a gift shop with jewelry and handcrafted gifts from local artists on display and for sale.  The Lemont Art & Culture Commission is a group of seven appointed members with the mission of enriching the community by cultivating and promoting the appreciation of our heritage through public Art. The Commission has completed several community art projects to date including the downtown mosaic planters at the Village Hall and along Stephen Street; the Stephen Street Bridge mosaics; and the "Pride of Lemont" mural on Front Street.  The Lemont Center for the Arts location was run with the commissioners and volunteers, some of which were also LAG members.  They had to to close their location at 1243 State Street in Lemont, IL, but are in search of finding a new location.  Please support the Lemont Art and Culture Commission and if you want to volunteer or have any ideas for a location in Lemont, please visit their website and contact them or see their email, below.

Artist Statement by Linda Berck:

In 2003, I retired from teaching Art at Lemont High School. My husband and I became snow birds to Arizona where I fell in love with the landscapes, vegetation and just all of Arizona….

But why paint all those cacti?!?  The forests of suguaros, prickly pears, barrel cacti were so captivating.  They became shapes, colors, textures, patterns in which I could manipulate to create fun paintings.  I don’t want to duplicate the cacti…but I hope to capture a feeling portrayed within their many qualities!

My husband keeps asking “ Are you ever going to paint something else?”…maybe….someday….

But, right now, when I start to paint….it is like being transported to a new dimension that has vivid colors, patterns, mystery….It IS the journey of painting. It’s a release from this crazy world and puts me in a happy place.  In this crazy world, I can escape.

When living in Rio Verde, Arizona, I became known as the “garage” lady.  That’s where my studio was….in the garage, door open to walkers, bikers, golf carts and anyone wanting to visit and watch.  I met many people, sold many paintings over the years.  It’s great knowing where one’s painting are!

Now, it’s back to Lemont.  I continue to be connected to the local area.  I am honored to be having this exhibit in connection with the Art and Culture Commission of Lemont and Pollyanna Brewing Co. and I also maintain my longtime membership with the Lemont Artists Guild.  So, what’s next?….A new chapter perhaps!  I know that my grandson has plans for me!….I hope you enjoy the fun of painting and the journey it takes you on!  Thank you for viewing my exhibit!

Thank you to the Art and Culture Commission of Lemont and Pollyanna for this wonderful space to exhibit artwork.  Thank you for your time in reading this!
